International Women’s Day 2022

Imagine a world where we could actually be free.

Wouldn’t that be a wonderful place to see!?

Sure, equality has come a long way…….

To celebrate we even get allocated a day!

But is a day enough to remove the fear?

Not if we only give this attention once per year!

We need you to raise your girls and boys,

Without selecting gender ‘suitable’ toys……..

We need to stand together as one,

Until we do the stigma will not be gone!

Showing our achievements will not cut it……

Whilst we are still being told where to sit.

Whilst we still have to be scared to walk home,

Our work is not done — don’t leave this alone!

Stand tall and stand proud for the women of the past,

But also remember that we won’t be the last!

Feeling pushed down, silenced and small,

Is not the way is has to be for us all!

There is nothing stronger than a broken woman rebuilt,

A woman whose raw emotions were spilt…….

We realise our importance once we have been told to shush,

Once someone has dismissed our opinions with a ‘hush, hush’.

But never let fears prevent you from doing what you know is right,

And I promise that you too will see the light!

We are just as important and vital to life,

We are not ‘just’ a mother and not ‘just’ a wife!

Be you. Only you. And for that be proud,

Do not forget to shout it out loud!

We will #BreakTheBias and you will hear us say;

I am a woman. I am determined………………

Now get out of my way!
